Steel Smart - 2016 AQHA Gelding

Steel Smart is a 2016 Registered AQHA Buckskin Gelding, He is stout, well balaneed and just the right size. At 14.2, he is wide enough to carry any ride and still easy to get on and off. The right color, with conformation and class to boot.

Steel Smart is enrolled in our Ultimate Trail Horse Program. He will be the first one to graduate this summer. This beautiful buckskin is sired by White Steel and is out of CS Equalizer Light. His sire is 36% Poco Bueno and his dam is was imported and is by Smart Equalizer by Smart Little Lena and with a female line to Greys Starlight and Reminic. “Lil Steel” has the pedigree to be athletic and sensible, he is certainly all that and more.

We actual bred Steel and sold him as a weanling. His owner passed away, so we purchased him back last year. He had a good start as all of our colts, on the obstacle course and all the general handling that we do. We did his under saddle training and now he is doing the finish work. We are thrilled to have one of White Steel’s foals to finish out in our Program.

Steel is very proficient on trails and has logged many miles solo and in groups. He is confident enough to trailer to the Park and go on a full day ride, all by himself. no worries at all. He will also go in groups and will lead, follow or go in the middle. He has ponied other horses and does not get rattled by youngsters bumping into him. You can walk all day or jog or lope when you request. We do some tough trails at times and he has been in hock deep soupy mud, negotiated slick rock, climbed steep hills and slid down banks. He is also happy to relax on the easy path and still careful with his feet and balance.

On the obstacles, Steel is confident and not one to spook at new ideas. Wobble bridge, balance beam, floating water box, no worries. He has had a lot of desensitizing to tarps, umbrellas, chainsaws, cars and ATV’s, umbrellas and the big ball. He is curious and very playful with his toys.

In the arena, Steel is very athletic and capable of using his body and hindquarters. He is getting all the body control and suppling work and is easy to train. He is not a hot horse, more of a push ride, can carry himself nicely. Working on sidepassing, turn on the forehand and haunches, a slow spin and two tracking at all gaits. He will lope on a loose rein with no constant checking, will extend or slow the trot and canter. Getting a good handle and on the way to becoming a fun horse to ride anywhere you go.

Can be reserved now with lessons for the new family to help the transition into a new home.
